Come unto me Matthew 11:28
As a parent of a teenager I have spent many a restless nights wondering where, when and if my teenager was going to be sleeping at home that night. I have droned on when I talk to him as to the why that he must call me and let me know where he would be crashing that night. I have to admit I get tired of clocking him and chasing him down.
So last night when he called and actually asked for my permission it was a ray of hope on the path to maturity. Finally he got it. Finally he thought of his father waiting and wondering at home. All I can say is, " It is about time."
When I hung up the phone I couldn't help but think of our heavenly Father. I felt a deep closeness to Him as I compared the patience that I have had to exercise and the patience He must exercise with us everyday. At times as my son has walked on the edge of disaster I have had to stop myself from jumping in and taking control of his life. For it is in these life decisions that he learns the hard lessons of life.
How equally difficult it must be for our Father to hold back blessings and allow us to fall away only to see us come crashing the gates of heaven asking for redemption.
Come unto me. Just like Father I want my son to come to me, lean on me, believe in me and love me. And so does our Father. And it's about time.
Father,
Your patience is unmeasurable.
A voice in all my trials.
My rock providing shade.
But not for just awhile.
Your love is never ending.
A place to run home to.
With eyes that never stop watching
In all the things I do.
