Is It Time To Come Down?

For necessity is laid upon me: yea woe is me if I preach not the gospel. 1st Cor 9:16

As a young insurance agent I was captured by the excitement of my first convention. Round trip airfare to Monterrey California for my wife and I proved that it was real. The red carpet treatment was rolled out as we arrived to find champaign tucked in our hotel room. The room was complete with our bed covers rolled down and mint chocolate on the pillow.

A bus was chartered to take us deep into the mountains. My eyes wandered to the highest snow capped peak as I watched the sun gentle touch my glass of Riesling. Utopia was one breath away and I never wanted to leave.

This is how it feels when we feel the presence of the Lord. This becomes those still shots of our Christian walk when God becomes so real and precious. This when all of our concerns and worries are washed away.

But just as I had to come down off the mount and enter back into the mainstream of life we too must come down. For the very reason of our existence rests in our ability to communicate Christ to the world. It becomes a true act of love to leave our love fest with Jesus.

There is a great love in the ascension. There is a greater love when we descend and take what we have been given to the lost, the hungry and the empty. This becomes our greatest test of surrender.

Is it time to come down off the mount? Is it time to take what God has inspired you to do and do it? We show our commitment to Christ in the valley. We live our commitment when we rise up early to listen, to walk and to let Christ touch us.

I don't know about you but my selfish flesh wants to remain on the mountain top. But only I am touched up there. God wants the multitudes. The rarity of the brushing up against Christ will not be enough. But oh go light a candle and watch the fire grow.

Some have been called to teach. Go teach. Some have been called to lead. Go lead. All have been called to love. So love.

Father,

It is in the selfishness of my flesh
That I want to live on the mountain top.
But You can only reach one there
And it does not lead to a bountiful crop.

So I will choose to descend.
To give out what You have given.
Now make me a shinning star.
So I can help others start living.
