On that very day Abraham... as God told him Gen. 17:23
Years ago I decided to gather some people at my house for fun and fellowship. At about 9:00 P.M. one of my friends began to open up and say how much she missed her sister. Her sister was six hours away as a youth counselor at camp. So I looked at her and said, " Let's go surprise her. Let's take a road trip. " Six spontaneous teenagers piled in my car for the anticipated glory at the other end.
We rolled into that small town at four A.M. and caught the sunrise over her cabin. Her sister was in absolute shock that we would do such a random act of spontaneity. Just that one smile was worth the long trip.
Let's face it obedience is not one of the favorite words in the dictionary. When I request things from my children I hear all the reasons they don't or can't or shouldn't be called upon for the task. They either argue their position or procrastinate the day away.
Does this sound familiar? Have you ever treated your heavenly Father that way? Has God showed you something that you have failed to be instant and spontaneous with?
I want to have an instant heart with Father. I must remind myself that God is incapable of leading me to something bad for me. Resistance comes when I want to run ahead of Him. He might be calling me into something difficult to enter into or walk through but His ultimate purpose is to make our walk stronger and our faith deeper. Being instant I show God a heart that is trusting without doubt or fear. I show Father that I am ready to be led and willing to obey. Be instant today.
Father,
I will storm the gates
Do what I must do.
I'll be spontaneous and instant
When I think of you.
With a willing heart
And fire in my eyes
I will run to heaven
With heart felt cries.
