Like A Familiar Friend

Be ye warm and filled...James 2:16

As I walked into my home I was prepared to watch my beloved Minnesota Wild hockey team on the big screen T.V. I was greeted with a room full of teenagers. Not wanting to interrupt and take over I roamed back to my sanctuary.

My master bath was waiting for me with the smaller flat screen and gas fire place. I considered sliding into a hot tub but with winter I was battling some dry skin.

It seemed logical to pile my pillows into the tub and watch the game. But in so doing I bumped the faucet and the pillows got wet. I decided the quickest way to dry the pillows was to put them by my  fireplace. Within minutes the pillows dried and I was ready to fade into bed.

When I laid my head down I got an extra benefit. The warm pillow caressed my cheek and relaxed me.

I thought of God's warmth and how often He is there to soothe us. Like a familiar friend His love can come on in the depths of winter or it can cool us on a hot summer night. This comforter that never sleeps hears the moaning of my heart. God's love is always available, never ending and a comfort in the storm.

His warmth is sent by a King to bring me peace. I see the beauty of heaven and I know that God is alive . This silent security touches my soul and I close my eyes to sleep.

Father,

Your hand is there to comfort me.
To calm me in the storm.
A blanket sent to soothe me
To keep me safe and warm.

This comfort that I feel
Is deep within my heart.
It is a blessed assurance
That we will never part.

Oh my Lord
If others could know
This peace that lives so deep.

And feel the warmth
Down deep inside.
What joy that they would reap.
