I pray thee, give thee council 1st. Kings 1:12
There is a popular phrase these days and it says, " Been there, done that." It is a short version of empathy. It means, " I have been where you are at. I can identify with what you are going through." I come to this phrase today as a measure of caution. I send this caution my Christian friends to remind you to seek good council.
When your heart is wounded reveal that to a Christian friend. It is only a Christian friend that can walk you to the woods, sit with you quietly in the wilderness and then precisely at the right moment seize the eagle and mount up on wings to pray.
In my past I played the fool too many times. When we carry our open wounds to the world we can only receive worldly advice. When you cry on someones shoulder make sure that shoulder rests against the Rock. Weep not with one that is possessed with the world but one with who's feet, mind and heart walk with the Lord.
Dr Harley in his book His Needs/ Her Needs indicates this is how many affairs start. When we are elbow to elbow at the lunchroom table bearing our wounds to all that will listen it opens up an avenue for satan to wander in. Is it any wonder that the Christian divorce rate is not much different then the secular world.
Let us not forget that it is in our emotions that we are out of control. Riding our emotions away from the cross is how the enemy gets us to do things apart from Christ.
The burden falls on our shoulders to be wise and seek good council. It is then that we can carry our hurts to the cross. For where two or more are gathered the enemy cannot enter.
Oh Father,
Too many times my bleeding heart
Was worn upon my sleeve.
I took my pain and hurts to the world
And now Lord I grieve.
For I was played the fool,
As I fell into satan's plan.
I did not seek good council
And he devoured up this man.
But now Lord in my older age
I understand Your teaching.
For now Your words are priceless
And not some foolish preaching.
I am guided by Your word,
As it means the world to me.
No longer am I foolish.
I was blind but now I see.
