A Square Peg In A Round Hole

Have you ever tried to put a square peg in a round hole? I am sure that is the way my brother felt for many years. At age twelve I was assigned to teach him to read. He was sixteen and was illiterate. School was always a struggle. I remember sitting at the kitchen table for hours trying to help.

Little did we realize that he was driving and not even able to read the road signs. Not until years later with the help of his wife did we understand the frustration he was forced to deal with for years. He was dyslexic and in the seventies that was not a common word.

But the amazing thing about my brother is his gift. He could make a small engine stand up and dance. He didn't need to read about that because he could take it apart and put it back together with his eyes closed.

Each of us has been given something unique to our character. That gift is designed by God to be used to further the kingdom. It can't be bought and it came directly from God. Imagine how frustrating it must be for Father to look down and see us abuse, misuse and refuse the gift that He has given us. Imagine the patience He has to have until we choose to embrace the gift and use it for what we were designed for.

These gifts are always for edification. They put a seal on friendship as we can use them to help others. My brother has a line long enough to go around the neighborhood as people come and ask for help on their lawn mowers, furnace, washers, dryers and anything else that causes someone like myself to just stand in amazement as to what he can do.

So if you are ready to step up to the plate and do some self analization just ask Father to reveal that one of a kind gift that was made just for you.

Father,
It took me many years
To finally understand
That I have a gift
Made by Your hands.

May I be faithful to the cross
And open to use my gift.
To do what ever it takes
To give others a lift.

When Satan comes to tell me
" This just can't be so."
May I run to the door
And tell him where to go.
