Jesus was led up the mountain by the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Matthew 4:1
In the game of hockey it takes good peripheral vision to be good at it. The ability to see from all sides is critical. Precision passes that slide through the maze of flailing bodies make you a super star. They say Wayne Gretzky's vision was superb.
Having peripheral vision as a Christian is just as important. Being able to sense the enemy from all sides is critical to our walk. Sometimes split second decisions are needed to discern what to do. Being on guard makes it much harder for the enemy to operate. Focusing on the character of our Father and burying ourselves in the scriptures strengthens our defenses.
Like the precision pass that ends up in the goal we can have that same victory when the enemy arrives. The enemy of destruction lurks. That means he might have gone before us to prepare a snare or he might be right behind us tempting us along the path of destruction. But rest assured it takes a heart of discernment and a sharp eye to detect what his plan is.
A wise skipper guides his boat deep into the middle of the channel to avoid the rough rocks. It was Joseph that left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house. Satan is at war with God's principles and we are often the warriors ready to do battle. By being close to the Holy Spirit, by staying focused you will hear, you will see and you will act accordingly. It is my deepest prayer that by flight and a keen vision you will never let go of His hand.
Father,
Give me clear vision when the enemy comes.
Brake his snare and tell me to run.
Keep my heart attuned to Christ.
Keep Him close
And make Him my life.
Tonight I sharpen my sword.
As I focus on Your crown.
Remind me my dear Lord
That the enemy is always around.
