deliver their soul from death Psalm 33:19
I don't know about you but I started to think of death at a young age. Not that I was morbid or anything. My guess is it had to do with seeing my neighbors skull crushed in and his leg hanging from a tree when he was blown out of his house from a tornado that struck our neighborhood. I was all of about fourteen years old and filled with myself.
During the years to follow my mind would wander back and ask questions as to the " What happens and where do we go?" I do remember these times as specific unrest. As I drew to understand the foundation of our beliefs I started to experience a peace.
The emphasis of the coming of Jesus was to give each of us eternal destination. His sole purpose from beginning to end was to be a Savior to all. He is the bread of life and once we ingest that into our souls we attain or receive that eternal life. Once we understand that divine purpose all fear and unrest evaporates into thin air.
Imagine the glory that Jesus possessed. Yet, He was willing to lay that aside for you and for me. This becomes the real Christmas story. It is far from the lights and the glitter and the glaze that we have turned it into. It is not about a manger or three wise men but about His willing desire to lay aside this glory unto death. Christmas starts and ends with His sacrificial obedience to the cross.
His willing heart allowed His earthly body to be destroyed. That is why I sing. Bring Jesus into focus this Christmas. Let Jesus touch your heart in a new fresh way.
Father,
There was a time I walked in fear
I did not understand,
You sent the sacrificial lamb to die
For just this man.
Now my death does not disturb me
I simply comprehend,
The power in the sacrifice
And now I say Amen.
