Where Does Your Mind Dwell?

But seek ye first His kingdom and His righteousness... Matthew 6:33

I once agreed to help someone with the purchase of some furniture. Since I knew of a place in town that was selling designer items at deep discounts I agreed to meet her over there. As we walked out to our cars she proclaimed in horror, " Is that your car? Well, that will really impress the ladies." My response was, " The only person I want to impress is Jesus." You see, I drive a car that is ten years old and the front hood is primer only. I am not much into cars. As long as it starts that is good enough for me.

Her words brought me to this scripture. This is a difficult command to follow when we are bombarded with fifty million messages a day to spend, spend, spend. It is revolutionary thinking to live our lives without regard to our earthly needs or desires.

When we make conscientious, sacrificial decisions to buy less and want less so we can give more we submit ourselves to this scripture. When we take little thought to the cares of this world then we announce to our friends that our priorities are God first. Yes, these thoughts are revolutionary but Jesus came to change the world. I want God to dominate my thoughts, my actions and my concerns.

So where does your mind dwell when you can steel a minute to yourself? In the quiet moments and the soft seconds what do you think about? I want to reflect His presence in my life.

If I spend my days trying to obtain less then my cares can be put to the concerns of others. In those quiet moments I can dwell, listen and obey.

Father,
Things of this world
Mean little to me.
For I will fix my eyes on You
Because that is the real key.

When my heart is anxious
And I'm concerned of what to eat
Calm my mind and still my heart
Then keep my heart upbeat.

I want to drown myself in Your bosom
And submit my heart to Your cares,
And once I make the Kingdom choice
I know You will always be there.
