How Fast Would Your Heart Start To Sing

There was a book I read when I first became a Christian that really amazed me. Merle Womack was a salesman that flew his four seater plane all over the country. Back in the seventies his job was to sell Muzak or elevator music to hotels.

While flying one night his plane went down and he was scorched over 80% of his body. While being wheeled into emergency surgery he began to sing. Beautiful melodies came pouring out of a man that was burned like marshmallow.

The amazing thing about this story was his voice. Because of the very specific way his vocal cords were charred he now could sing like Josh Groben. Plus, before his feet could touch the ground he began to sing. Before he could even move his hands to feed himself he sang. Lying there almost unable to swallow he still sang his heart out in the emergency room. Oh Christian, may you have such a response as this when faced with tragedy.

When others would label this a tragedy God saw a man that He could use to sing praise songs. When others would surrender to the pain this man found his purpose and surrendered to it.

We will all face difficulties of some sort in life. So I must ask you, how fast would you start to sing praise songs? Would you hit the ground running and use your tradegy to attract others to the cross? Would your commitment to Jesus rise above any physical or emotional pain you could ever imagine? Do you love Jesus just enough to be comfortable or will you exalt Him in the fires of your life?

Let us stand feet forward, eyes upward and have a heart that knows nothing more then to sing to a Savior that deserves much more.

When tragedy appears
And is brought right to my door,
It won't knock me to my knees
Or grip me to the core.

The faster I recover
And praise His mighty name,
The faster He'll bring peace
And all will be the same.
