Deep In The Darkness

The Lord God has opened my ear and I was not rebellious... Isaiah 50:5

Long before I ever knew the Lord I was at a loss as to how to deal with loneliness. The deep dark nights were my enemy. I hated walking into an empty house with lingering thoughts of a love gone bad. The walls always seemed to crawl in on me and engulf my emptiness.

The unbeliever does not know how to deal with these times. In shear loneliness they jump off a bridge. Desperation becomes the voice that they listen to. They have centered their lives on the things of this world. Once that is stripped away they have no solid ground to stand on.They have not found the answer to their suffering.

I once was making cold calls and I came across a lead that when I called I got a shocking response. The husband had recently died and his wife was despondent when I called. She referred to her husband as her soul mate and that she misses him at every corner that she takes.

As Christians when we are faced with this solitude we understand that this is where Kingdom work is done. Too many Christians have fallen asleep and this is a time to be woken up. These moments are where the soul is awakened, God presents His challenges and our mind stands up and says," Yes, Lord, send me." During these times when God plants a dry seed look for the blossom of the rose.

We know we are at peace with solitude when we are placed in the center of it and we do not feel alone. Actually, we are in the most healthiest of states when we desire, embrace and long for solitude. For this is our coming out party. This is a time for communion with Father. This is a time for Father to let us know He wants more from us and He has raised the bar of expectation.

There is a popular song and I love the line, " You're the only one that can undo what I've become." God is the only one that can do a make over of our heart. Where else but in the stillness of the night can He speak so honestly. In the stillness when He can reach us is when He can unglue our failures. Until we reach the land where there will be no night enjoy the time with Father. Embrace this time and watch the beauty of a rose come forth.

When quiet surrounds me
Late into the night,
When my heart is restless
And nothing seems right,

I'll call on the Savior
And reach for His hand,
Because He is the answer
And not mere man.
