let those who love the Lord hate evil Psalm 97:10
When I was about eight years old I was down at the beach skipping rocks. Then I saw it. It was a bottle, and yes I could see a piece of paper in it. But the bottle was far off bobbing in the waves. Determined to find out what was in that bottle I spent well over three hours pitching rocks and using tree branches to get my hands on the bottle. Once I got it I opened it up only to find the water had seeped in and destroyed the message.
But this is a message I don't want you to miss. For many, sin has become something of a mere shadow. It has become a mere afterthought of our actions. In actuality, the words we speak are " Lord, I know this is wrong but I am going to do this anyway." We are like Christians that walk around with shock absorbers and we show little regard to our sins.
With that being said why don't we hate sin any more? Why don't we despise it? I speak not of perfection, far from it.
Let us not forget how sin destroys our capacity to be the way God wants us to be. It begins with our heart and then burrows down into the way we think, feel and act. Sins ultimate purpose is to drag us to the ground and seperate us from Christ.
Currently there is no cure for sin except to hate it. For it cuts us off from the vine and leaves us to shrivel up like a useless prune. But when we call out to Jesus by increasing our desire to have Him in every cubicle of our lives we increase the possibility to defeat sin.
Father,
Make my sins so clear
That I can perfectly see
The way that they destroy
The one You want me to be.
Open my eyes to see
And make it clear in my heart
So I can make the change
And walk with a brand new start.
