Yet they knew not the scripture. Jn. 20:9
I was talking with my teenager today and I was reminding him to bring his English book home so we could catch up on some missing assignments. His answer was, "The only way I will remember is if I write it on my hand." So I threw him a pen and told him I would see him after school.
It is documented facts that a teens brain is not fully developed until they are twenty five so they are off the hook. But what is our excuse? Why don't we burn the candle late at night to memorize scripture.
I am coming to understand this vital part of communion with Christ. The scriptures are external evidence to convict our internal nature. They keep us from sin and become our human help mate.
True confessions for me are that I have always had trouble memorizing them. But I have to question if I ever asked for help. The Holy Spirit was actually sent with this purpose.
I read an amazing account of the value of memorizing scriptures. There was a woman that was abducted and thrown into the trunk of her car. While she lay in the darkness she prayed for her abductor. As a child her mother had her memorize scriptures. She spoke the word while lying alone in the night.
Miraculously the abductor pulled over and let her in the front seat. While there she quoted scriptures and explained no mater what this man had done Jesus will be there to love him through it. Because Gods word was hidden in her heart she walked away and even won a soul.
As Christians we are not immune to bad things happening to us. But if we are equipped with Gods word to use against the enemy then victory will always be ours to our very last breath.
This means that every negative situation in our lives can be used to point someone to the cross. That means if you have a broken leg than glory be maybe the attending nurse is not saved. Maybe you are facing bad grades from the teenager and that gives you one on one time with his teacher. Even a car accident gives us a chance to talk with a policeman.
I am not talking about trying to win scalps for Jesus. I am saying that if we know Gods word then every situation is an event that may lead them to Christ. They are not lost they just are not found. So go find them and help bring them home.
Prepare my mind and heart
To declare Your mighty name.
Let me be equipped
To tell the world You came.
Just let me burn the midnight oil
Please tell me what to say.
As I might be the only one
That speaks of Jesus today.
