Standing In My Underwear

I will not fail you or abandon you. Joshua 1:5

When I was in 7th grade I joined choir. I thought, " I like to sing. What a better way to spend an hour in school?" Never did it dawn on me that we would spend part of the class working on the mechanics of singing. I soon found out that sight reading, note identification and diaphram control played a big part in being a good singer.

Towards the end of the first quarter the teacher said " Tomorrow, we are going to individually stand up and sight read a song." The big problem was I didn't pay attention during that part of the class. I couldn't sight read a song. I couldn't read notes. Man, I just came to sing. Needless to say I panicked.

By the time I reached home I had devised a plan. It was winter in Minnesota and as luck would have it, it was a below zero night. So I took out a big bucket and filled it with ice cubes and water. I put it outside so it could freeze. I waited for the perfect time and them went out side and stripped to my underwear. I then stood there for a good half an hour and shouted like a maniac. I tried desperately to loose my voice so I would not have to sing the next day.

Now, here is the point I want to make. At that point in my life I was not saved. I did not have the peace that Christ can fill us with. I did not know any other way to handle that situation accept to panic; to do something illogical and inadvisable. I am sure I looked the fool to anyone that saw me.

I am so glad that I now have the power of prayer. As Christians, no matter how bad things get we can faith rest and let God take over. Now, when things get tough I have Jesus.

There was a time tucked in my past
I did not know His name.
A time placed in my history.
A time before You came.

But now Lord life is different.
I can always call on You.
I can rest with full anticipation
that You will pull me through.

There is no need to be upset.
There is no need to be concerned.
I'm just resting in Your holiness
And I am at peace for what I've learned.
