he yet kept himself close 1st Chronicles 12:1
When my children were much younger we played a game that was one of their favorites. I would stop at the store and buy an assortment of candy or a small gift.
Then to their excitement I would hide it. As they walked close to the hidden treasure I would tell them if they were hot or cold. Joy filled the air as I would shout " You're getting closer. Wow are you hot. You are burning up."
As Christians, our lives parallel that same example. The closer we are to Christ the greater is the excitement. The hotter our heart beats for Christ the deeper the jubilation.
In contrast, when we make decisions that lead us away from Christ it shows. Our words get a little harsher. Our anxiety heightens. Fear can grip us in an instant.
So check your barometer. Is it hot or cold? Make decisive decisions to draw near to Christ. Get excited and just be a child again.
Father,
It seems like an obvious choice
that I would choose to draw close.
Make my walk red hot
And certainly not like most.
When faced with Kingdom decisions
May I always choose the cross.
Draw me close like a little child
And do it at all costs.
