They lean upon the Lord Mic. 3:11 As a parent I have had the privilege to watch my children grow from childhood to teenage. As I think back to those life changing stages I remember the very times of their pulling away. I remember them stretching out their arms and fighting to get away when I just wanted to hug them. These are brutal times for a parent. These are times when we have to acknowledge their natural progression towards independence. These memories pull at our heart strings and sometimes bring tears. When we as adults exercise that same act of independence from God I am sure Father weeps. When independence and self will shake hands and we conspire to leave the cross I am sure Father shudders. It is when Christ invades our every thought that we draw close. When we embrace the cross and can feel the pain of Jesus as if the very drops of blood crawled down our forehead then we defeat the independent thoughts of self. So rip the clothes off your back and put on His sak cloth. Trade in the keys to your house and dwell in His mansion. Hunger for Him beyond any five course meal and accept only His manna. First Steps You took your very first steps today And it turned me upside down. For things won't be the same With you travelling all around. The hugs will all get shorter now As you move your little feet. Running in the distance Dancing to the beat. Independence calling Pulling you away. Wishing in my heart I would never see this day. As night time fades to evening I sit here with a smile. Kissing, hugging Holding you But just for a little while. |
