to go unto his friend to refresh... Acts 27:3
Years ago I was thinking about friendship and I wrote a piece that I intend to put into a book of poetry. The words were:
For those that know me
without knowing my name.
For those that love me
without reason or shame.
For those that hold nothing back
nor question what they feel
I'll sing this song for you.
It seems that sometimes we meet someone for the very first time and it is as if they have known us all our lives. They seem to know us so well and understand our very nature. They have no fear in sharing their love and they eagerly step into our life.
These are friends that never analyze the relationship but just embrace the laughter and enjoy the moments God gives us. God calls these friends like minded. Treasure these friends. They are a gift from God. I am sure God knew that I needed these friends in my life. His timing is always perfect.
The word friendship is described two ways in the Bible. A good friend is true to Christ, stays close to you, leads you to the cross, is like minded, shows a willingness to sacrifice, has an obedient spirit and gives constructive criticism.
Conversely, a bad friend is treacherous, dangerous, unfaithful, false, wordily and may entice to sin.
May God continue to bless you with good friends and may you echo their actions.
My Forever Friend
I told myself
I was only going to stop
for a moment
yet,
like always,
our time raced by.
I told you secrets
I wouldn't dare tell
any one else
and
laughed at things
that nobody else
would understand.
Inside,
I felt our friendship move
beyond explaination.
And I knew
we would be
forever friends.

Yes, there certainly are some that refresh and lift. There are some you dont see for the longest time because life gets in the way, yet when you get together its as if no time has ever passed.
I agree there are bad friends who definitely drain and entice sin and then make you feel guilty because you know its too toxic to continue but they attack your character when you want to sever it because its toxic and will compromise your morals because inside, in your gut, you know remaining friends is just wrong. Those are the most trying.
So you end it and all contact and there is peace again and you know you made the right choice.
I think to deal with it you just have to let God be the judge of your character, not some other person whom you know is no good to continue friendship with. You just have to lift it up to HIM and let go and trust HIM to put a blanket of protection over you so that the fallout doesn't hurt too badly.
I think that is the hardest.
Friendship, like love should be easy and light. Should be comforting and safe. Should be honest and true. Should be equally balanced.
Sometimes you just know, without understanding.
You just know the feeling the person evokes and its as if you can see into their spirit. That their soul is clear and accepting. There is no blocking you can just get in deep and you know they are pure and genuine and good. You just know......that this one's a keeper.
A keeper of my heart and its ok because you just know....its safe.
Those tend to be friends for life.
