Breaking The Bondage Of Generational Sin

written for the generation to come Psalm102:18

I was talking to a friend the other night and not once but twice my son came into my room. The first time he came in when he arrived home and said " Dad I want to introduce you to Tim, he is going to sleep here tonight."

I shook Tim's hand ,as I always do when a new teen enters my house, and I heard the words " This one's in trouble." I went back to my phone call and twenty minutes later my son arrived at my door. Without saying anything in particular I could tell he needed me.

It was a beautiful summer night on our porch and we all went outside to talk. I looked for an opening to ask specific questions to Tim. He looked out into the woods and blurted out " It is so peaceful here." I agreed, knowing quite well where the peace comes from. Then he said " Not at my house, my family is falling apart." I assumed his parents were going through divorce but his words were " No, it is much more than that." I could tell his 17 year old heart was bleeding. Then he continued, " Both my parents are alcoholic. My dad is abusive. He hit my step mom and I stepped in to restrain him. He called the police and they told me to leave. Then they went back to the house twice after that." Then he closed with "My Mom takes men over her children."

I asked him where he lives and his answer was frightening as he said " Know where in particular." It doesn't seem fair that he should have to know of such pain. It doesn't seem right that he must be exposed to such insecurity. It doesn't seem right that he should have to be pounded down like a sledge hammer with these obstacles.

Satan continues to raise havoc on this earth. From generation to generation from divorce to divorce we are caught in sins that must be stopped. I told Tim that it is time to break this bondage in his family. From the look in his eye I think he got it. In fact he said "I am going to go to college for business. I already have a business plan for the company I am going to own someday." Wow! You gotta love his spirit.

We never know what God is going to call us to on any given day. We never know at any given moment who God is going to deliver to our doorstep. By getting involved and having an open door policy we can help them take one small step for mankind one heart at a time.

When troubles come
and we're surrounded
and we don't know what to do,

May we always come
on bended knee
and give it all to You.

When darkness falls
And all seems lost
Let us always say,

The only way
I made it through
Was by
Calling on Jesus today.

For You Lord
are our refuge.
A peace within the storm.
A blanket sent to soothe us
to keep us safe and warm.
