Spiritual Slippage

If a man remains in me and I in him Jn. 15:5

If you would ever come to Minnesota in the summer time you would find a number of people up at there cabins enjoying the good life. This cabin dweller works had all week to rush north to get to their get away for the weekend.

As cars line the freeway on a Friday night Satan rubs his hands together lurking at the side of the road. He knows that many are entering his playing field and the scoreboard will be lit up in his favor.

Spiritual slippage begins when we stop doing the daily routine of walking with Christ. It starts when we stop going to church and taking in the word.Does that sound legalistic? It could. I am not talking about an occasional break but of a consitency strung together apart from Christ. When we depart from Christ the word means that we leave or go away from. That is how Satan gets hold of us. He works by isolating us away from the spark of other Christians.

All too many days my spiritual scoreboard showed that I was apart from Christ. Just ask the weekend warriors if they go to church up north. To depart from Christ means that we leave or go away from Christ. Christ didn't move but we did.

When I am apart from Christ I can feel it. There is a gnawing from the Holy Spirit as He tries to give a gentle reminder. His calling is something we must take heed to. Then it is up to us to respond to the calling.

It is then that we should make a decision to find that weekend church. Because apart from Christ our life has no purpose, no motivation, no encouragement and no hope. But a life that is centered in Christ becomes a life that gives, loves, hopes and perseveres. It is a life that is purpose driven for Jesus.

If I am driven to my knee's
to communicate with Christ.
If my honest desire
is to make Him my life.

Then the tensions that surround me
shall not have their way.

I'll be knee deep
in the scriptures
to lift me up that day.

And when Satan comes knocking
I will be assured
that I will be protected
by God's mighty word.
