The Smallest Box

Even though Christmas is months away my mind wandered back to a particular Christmas when I was young. My father wanted to give my mom a special ring that he had designed. With five kids in our family he had a birthstone for each of the children represented on each finger.

I still cling to his joy as he presented this ring. What was special was the way he presented it. He started out with the biggest box he could find. Then , he proceeded in descending order to wrap another six boxes inside until the smallest one was the prize jewels.

My mother was much surprised as she opened each empty box. The excitement grew to a great pitch until she finally arrived at the smallest box with the greatest prize. To recall the love that was in the room as us five children watched the show was priceless. All 250 lbs of my father was filled with a child like glee as my mother finally landed on the smallest box.

To our heavenly Father the Spiritual gifts that He has equipped us with are priceless, unique prizes.
When we search ourselves and discover the gifts He has richly blessed us with and then we surrender to the call of using those gifts then He is pleased.

Our life song, our purpose driven life then becomes a journey to further the kingdom. It is when we choose to find those hidden jewels within us that we bring joy to our Father. Then in return we receive joy to know that we are pleasing the Father.

Has He called you to be a teacher in your mid years? Has He shown something to you that is a definite directive? Then be obedient to the gift. Do what ever it takes to answer the call.

Now I ask you are you on the road to discovery? Have you asked the searching questions to discover your gifts? Has God revealed that unique, priceless gift that is priceless in His eyes? You are a one and only because of what He has done in you.
Pursuing and using our gifts is far more priceless than winning the lottery, the Nobel Prize or anything labelled a success on earth.

Father,
You have made me special
with a specific plan
and there are times I question
and do not understand.

But I will simply surrender
and listen for Your call,
then I will choose to follow
because You are my all.
