Rejoice with me for I have found my sheep which was lost. Luke 15:6
When we were looking for land to build our house I had one specific priority. I wanted to be five minutes from church so I could easily be involved. Tucked in our serene wilderness in the north suburbs we are far away from the inner city problems of society.
Seldom do we see the hungry, lost and lonely enter our doorstep. But rest assured there are people out there that are hurting. It is easy to forget this as we go home in our $40,000 vehicles to our million dollar homes. We are isolated and immune to the issues of the heart. We somehow have forgotten these people are just like you and I.
Years ago as I was working at a Billy Graham Crusade I was behind the counter selling his books. As I finished up and was told I could go I saw another booth that was busy so I jumped behind that counter to help.
Within minutes a mentally challenged man came up to the booth. He had fear in his eyes and panic on his face.I could decipher that he lived in Rochester which was about 90 minutes away.
I said to the Lord "Father, I really don't want to drive to Rochester but if that is Your will I'll do it."
I started walking outside with this man and praying with every step. The concert was over and now we were in a sea of streaming people. Now, my prayer was "Lord, show me what you want me to do. " Then out of the mass of humanity came two gleeful shouts " George, we found you." Somehow, George had gotten separated from the group of fifty they had taken to the concert.
There are so many ways to reach out to people today. Ask Him to show you who you can help. He will. A simple invite to a stranger at church. A longing in the heart to foster care and share what God has given. Bust down the doors of that isolation and then just let the love take over.
Lost In The Crowd
Lord, the crowd keeps getting bigger
I don't want to pass them by.
May my eyes be set to see them.
May my heart just hear their cry.
There's a widow moving slowly
down the aisle of the church.
May I take the time to whisper
"You no longer need to search."
To the people that are helpless,
to the one's that are harassed.
To the one's we deem quite hopeless,
we will take off our mask.
To the lost and empty handed
to the meek and to the poor.
May we come to You on bended knee
lay our hearts out on the floor.
Oh Lord, please hear our cries now
before their lost within a crowd.
We will praise the name of Jesus
stand together sing it loud.
Bring our love right to the alter.
Lay it at Your precious feet.
With our hearts all bound together
that is where we all must meet.
To the people that are helpless.
To the one's that are harassed.
To the one's we deem quite hopeless
may we take off our mask.
To the lost and empty handed
To the meek and to the poor.
May we come to You on bended knee
and lay our hearts out on the floor.
In Jesus name. His precious name.
