Remember The Prize
Do you not know that those who run in a race, all run, but one receives the prize. 1st Cor.9:24
Thanks to a friend I had the opportunity to see a video post about Dick and Rick Hoyt. This was a father committed to helping his disabled son run over 1,000 races. They even participated in decathlons. When I watched the story unfold I couldn't help but see the joy in the son's eyes as he looked into his fathers face as they ran. His father was consumed to run for his son as it was obvious it set him free, drew him close to his father and unleashed his soul to fly higher than he ever could on his own.
I had to ask myself do I feel that way about my heavenly Father? When He carries me over the valleys of my life do I adoringly look up to Him? Do I feel His heart beat next to mine as He pulls me close? Am I willing to put in the time of study, prayer and memorizing scriptures to know Him intimately? Am I committed to the cause of Christ to run the race for life. Do I want nothing more or desire nothing less than to run the race with endurance for the sake of the High Priest?
"Your strength will equal your days." Daily, God will give you strength to run the race. Strength to pursue Him when you are exhausted. Strength by leveling the playing field at work. Strength because He will go before you and fight your battles.
The prize for the Christian is Jesus Christ. The disciplines we lay down everyday will result in having a deep, close, strands that will not break relationship with Christ. When the world says, " Why are you waisting your time" remember the prize.
Late at night when I draw my breath
And I am one day closer to facing death.
May the verdict be that I spoke of Christ.
May others know that He is my life.
For the race we run is not about winning.
Or keeping score of all of our sinning.
But the real race that I must run.
Is telling others about His son.
May I be restless as I can possibly be
When His very presence does not consume me.
