I Get It

" Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come into him." Revelations 3:20

Before I had moved out to New Jersey a friend spent countless hours trying to explain the roadway system to me. They said, " We don't have left hand turns. To go left you have to go right." You can diagram that on a kitchen napkin all you want but I would have still given you the deer in the headlights look. I just couldn't grasp it over the phone. Not until I moved to New Jersey and actually experienced the turn arounds did I get it.

I remember the same feeling when I was searching for truth. I found all the different labels for Christianity confusing. All the numerous denominations seemed to polarize me. And all the do's and don'ts of religion repelled me.I just didn't get it.

But when I experienced the love of Christ I got it. When I recieved the forgiveness of our Father I got it. When I sensed the comfort of a guardian angel then I got it.

Looking into the eyes of a Joe Melton and seeing his agape love did it. Seeing a successful businessman like a Don George who genuinely cared about my salvation did it. Experiencing the tenacious commitment of a John Dewey sealed it for me.

It took awhile, but I finally cut through the man made religiosity and I got it. Realizing Christianity was not about denominations or man made rules or do's and don'ts but about accepting God's free gift of salvation did it for me.

If you have ever seen a painting by Holman Hunt you will get it too. The painting is a picture of Jesus. It has a glorious stone archway. The bricks are covered with a shimmering green ivy and Jesus is placed before a big, think heavy door.

Beneath the glorious painting were the words, " Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come into him." But there was a bit of trickery to the picture. The artist astutely left something out. There is no door knob to the picture. Only from the inside out could the door be opened.

God came to my door and knocked.. When I finally got it I opened the door and let Him in.

Father,

I finally got it
And chose to let You in.
And bathed in the blood of Christ
You washed me of my sin.

Oh what a glorious day
When I chose to let you abide.
I opened up my heart
And asked You to reside.

Blessing my Brother.. as you found it is not in the religious nomenclature of denominational titles... but rather in Jesus and God and his abundant LOVE and what he did for you and I..

He will not be found in temples made with hands or those of denominational titles but in the Heart of man... Praise God..

May Christ continue to bless you as you share the words and testimony laid upon your heart my brother..

your friend and brother in Christ
