Let your light so shine Matthew 5:16
When I was a teenager there was a popular show on television. It was called the Match Game and I am sure you remember it. Three bachelors or bacheloretts were trying their best to shine so they could be the chosen to go on an unforgettable all expense paid night on the town.
As Christians we have three doors to choose from to let God shine thru us. These three characteristics paint an undeniable picture as to who we are, what we stand for and what makes us happy.
The first that lets us shine for the Kingdom is grace. Grace is unmerited love freely bestowed on those that are undeserving. The Daily Bread tells the story of a little boy that had an accident and was taken to the hospital. After he was made comfortable, a nurse brought him a large glass of milk.
He looked longingly at it, but did not pick it up. He had come from a poor home where his hunger was seldom satisfied. If he ever received a glass of milk, it was only partially filled, and even that had to be shared with another child.
Finally he looked up at the nurse and asked, " How much may I drink?' The nurse replied, " Drink it all! There is more."
The second characteristic to reflect to others is hope. Hope is a life that lives with the radiance of Christ. It tells the world that God can defeat the impossible and destroy the wicked. When we hang our every breath on God's word and God's promises the world takes notice.
The third characteristic to reflect a light that cannot be denied is Joy. Joy is a happy heart in the face of a fallen world. True joy is having an abundance in Christ that over flows, spills out and touchs others. This gladness of heart is contagious and a great delight.
Christian, strive for grace, hope and joy and let God shine thru you to a world that desperately needs Christ.
May my grace, hope and joy
shine thru me.
May they touch my neighbor
then they will see thee.
May I reflect a love
that shows just who You are,
Then You will show up
Oh precious Lord
Just like a shining star.
