He often withdrew to lonely places and prayed Luke 5:16
Some years ago I decided it would be a good thing to read the Bible from cover to cover. So I went out and bought a one year Bible and began the journey. But soon into the venture I found my prayer time was becoming a have to instead of a want to. My intimacy with Christ became a regimen.
Rather than striving for treasured fellowship with Christ my prayer time was reduced down to a goal. Intimacy with Christ should not be reduced down to a planned out result to say in the end "I did it."
Since God is awesomely revealed in his Word , the prayer of faith must always be rooted in Scripture. Prayer becomes truly meaningful when we enter into a relationship with God through Christ. We can then build on that foundation by saturating ourselves with Scripture. Hank Hanegraaff, The Prayer Of Jesus.
Christ is our example as He often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. Luke 5:16. In the quiet He could listen and hear God speak. In the stillness is where we strengthen our relationship and find the treasures that only God can give.
When I reduce down my prayer time
to be an obligation.
I miss the treasured fellowship
And miss my transformation.
So speak to me in the quiet
And make your way clear
So I can know just what You want
When Your messages appear.
