for I am poor and needy Psalm 86:1
When I was 21 years old and single I decided to get involved with the Big Brothers organization.
I was assigned a young twelve year old boy that lived in the rough part of town. Two to three times a week we would get together for fun and fellowship. Some of the stories I would here about life in the cities was quite shocking.
As Christians we are called to provide for the widows and the orphans. We are called to get involved. Like the foreign student that comes to our country for an education and then goes back to their homeland and touches many so to can be our impact in these circumstances.
In their youth their biases are not ingrained. In their youth their minds are not cemented shut.
Like a sponge left out in the desert they are primed to soak up spiritual ideas. It is the needy that listen to the promise of the scriptures with open ears and a hungry heart.
Right thinking at the right time can write history for a family, a country and the world if we only get involved.
He's got little hands
and little feet.
He's got a great big smile
Like an ice cream treat.
He likes to swim
and he likes to play ball.
Someday Lord,
he's going to grow
real tall.
I'm not his Dad
but I can still give
just enough love to help him live.
Help me take all the pain away
And point him to a brand new day.
Just use my hands, just use my heart,
To give this child
A brand new start.
Help me be
a buddy and a friend
Sent by You
To help him mend.
