On The Inside Of Your Heart

if we say that we have fellowship 1st John 1:6

When my boys were young we had certain traditions that we all looked forward to. Three that come to mind are sock fights, making forts, and food fights. For the sock fights we would haul out all of our socks, take strategic positions throughout the house and wail at each other.

When we made forts it was a good activity on a rainy day. All the blankets would come off the shelves. Pillows were there to secure the forts and phone books made great weights to keep the blankets in place.

The greatest tradition we ever devised was an all out food fight. Buckets of smashed potato's, yogurt, ice cream, gravy and anything else we could think of that was gooey lined the picnic table as the children readied themselves for battle. The neighbor kids would join in not quite sre what they were getting themselves into. These memories are savored as I look at the kids dripping with food . I can almost here the laughter all over again.

My children still talk of these times with a fondness in their heart. I am sure these traditions will be handed down to their children. It was an opportunity to paint our love on the inside of their heart. A message was sent that they are vital to our happiness.

The critical point I want to make here is the time we had to set aside to maintain these traditions. Whether it be friends , family or our children we must take the time for fellowship. Fellowship sends a message that you are important and you are loved.

Fellowship strengthens our faith, gives God the opportunity to work through us and binds up those that are suffering. In this busy work a day world wisdom prevails when we break the workaday world we live in and rush to those we love to fellowship the day away.

Mama Talk To Me

I heard my little girl say to me the other day,
" Do you have to work? Can't we play?"
I looked at her with her eyes of blue
and did the only thing that a mom could do.

Hold me, squeeze me. Momma come and tease me.
Let's play all day. Momma talk to me.

We spent the day at the park.
Laughed all day, stayed up til dark.
From Hide-and -go-Seek
To "Catch Me If You Can"
Our love rang out
Throughout the land.

Later that night
As I tucked her in
In her little girl voice
I heard her begin

" I thank You Lord
For all You do
And for bringing me my Momma
When I am blue."
