Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word and he becomes unfruitful. Matthew 13:22
These days are you finding it a challenge not to worry. With gas prices rising to their all time high and foreclosures running wild in every neighborhood trouble seems to be as common as the cold.
Look in any window and you see divorce stacked upon divorce. Couples you would have bet the house on to make it are now just another statistic.
Doom and gloom could easily become part of our thoughts and actions if we are not careful. So let me make this blatantly clear so that you can not forget it.
Worry chokes the word, gluts the soul and obstructs the gospel. If not careful it will hinder Christ's work and in the extreme cases manifest unbelief.
One defense is to not let earthly possessions own us. Too often we become attached to things and when we face the threat of loosing them we worry, we fret and we get anxious.
We can also fight the fight by claiming God's protection, believing completely in His provision and clinging to the promises that are laced throughout scriptures. God can use our tough times to prick our heart and challenge our faith.
So it is that worry evokes either a greater intensity to doubt or a greater opportunity to believe.
I am up for the challenge and I pray that you are too.
Father,
when I think of the times we live in
it is easy to be afraid.
My heart gets caught in the struggle
and forgets all the promises You've made.
So I will choose to believe
in everything You have said.
I am leaning on the promises
and remembering all that You did.
