Have You Ever Cooked Your Fish In A Dishwasher?

Trust in Him at all times. Psalm 62:8

Years ago I had the good fortune of qualifing for a trip to Hawaii. The boys were sent out on a deep sea fishing trip to catch the meal for the wives. We caught a ton of Tuna and it was my turn to feed the multitudes.

As a former chef I was well prepared to feed the 12 hungry anxious faces that asked how I was going to prepare the meal. I had gone to the local market and had picked up some fresh spices to prep my way to a smoked grilled Tuna cook out.

As I was preparing the meal the phone rang and it was my manager Roy. " Brad, I know how to cook the fish." With my hands covered in lemon pepper butter I shot back, " Thanks, but I have this one. I am going to cook them out on the grill." Then Roy shot back, " I was talking to some locals down at the pool and they told me a secret recipe." Trying to be open minded I asked " So how should I cook the fish?" Roy's answer confused me, " I can't tell you hear you have to come to the condo." So with my hands knee deep in sauce I ran to the condo.

Once again I asked " O.K., HOW SHOULD I COOK THE FISH?" he told me he couldn't tell me with all the people in the living room and that I had to go to the back bedroom. As my patience was waning I followed him like a puppy dog into the back bedroom. Then I shouted in exasperation " HOW SHOULD I COOK THE FISH?"

The words that followed out of his mouth knocked me right over. He said, "Brad, I was down at the pool talking to some locals and they said to wrap the fish in tin foil as tight as we can. Put them in the dishwasher ( No soap) place them on the top shelf on regular cycle and that is it.

I pleaded, "Roy, can't you see what is happening here? Tomorrow when we go to the pool they are going to laugh like mad men at us. " Then Roy said, "No Brad I trust these guys."

Well old Roy might have had the trust in him but I didn't. All I could see were 12 faces staring at me like new born baby birds. I just could not relish ordering pizza on a tropical island if this didn't work.

So with out telling a sole I took half the fish and cooked it exactly like Roy said. I took the other half and cooked it on the grill outside. l am here to profess that the fish in the dishwasher was tender, moist and succulent. The fish on the grill was tough and dry.

As I look back I can see I had an issue with trust. I trusted but just half way. God wants all of us and all of our trust. I have been a half way Christian for too long in my life. Corrie Ten Boom said " never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a all knowing God." Isn't that the scary part? To just let go. To eliminate the need for the power of control and just let go.

I have to remind myself that God is fully capable of taking care of me no matter what situation I am in. He is the rock and I can place my trust in Him.

Life is often difficult
so could it be so true
that all I have to do today
is simple trust you.

I will evacuate all my burdens.
I will surrender all my cares.
I declare to You my Savior
that You will always be there.

Blessed is the man that trusts
completely in Jesus Christ.
The keeper of our soul,
the vine that is our life.
