He calls ...by name John 10:3
I was walking at the State Fair and there was a woman that had a booth to promote her business. Armed with PhDs and Doctoral studies she specialized in working with entrepreneur's. Since I have been self employed for 33 years I began to confess that I was confused with my make up.
I told her I have the forward thinking, serious minded thought process of a financial planner and I have a multi creative, childish wit of a clown. She proceeded to tell me I have the O brain. She explained that I don't function with just one side of my brain like most people but that both sides of my brain flow to the middle and it is called the O brain. My answer was OHHHHH.
Now that is a clear explanation of who I am. That explains why I can write songs about Belly Buttons and then make my financial analyst calculator stand up and dance.
As a man capable of doing some very zany things I wondered if I could ever co-exist with other Christians. I had all Christians labeled and neatly tucked away in a box and I did not ever see how I could fit in that box. I had met some Christians that were wired so tight that if they ever smiled their face would crack.
The good news of Jesus Christ is not to be so serious. We are free in Christ and that freedom allows us great latitude. Don't let the weight of Christian mentality hold you down. We look through a different prism because our grid is Jesus. The Holy Spirit dwells within us and shines out.It is that unique shining that is an attraction to the non-Christian.
I had 15 teens at my house and as we gathered at the fire pit I mentioned I had written a song about belly buttons. It didn't take much prodding for me to bust out into my rendition of it. Now every time I see them the first thing they say is " Will you sing the belly button song? " I know it is hard to vision God using that song to lead others to Christ but we serve a great and glorious God that allows us the freedom to have fun. So without any further adieu I will share two of my craziest :
Belly buttons
I like them so much.
They're ugly to look at
but so fun to touch.
Belly buttons
are neater than neat.
I like them better
than big ugly feet.
Belly buttons
don't do much at all.
They can't use the telephone
or catch a football.
Belly buttons
I'm glad they don't grow.
If God was standing here
I'd sure tell Him so.
Road Crews
How bout those road crews?
I wish I was on one.
Standing there flippin signs,
Baking in the hot sun.
Listening to the swearing
as people drive by.
Really making people mad
when I smile and say Hi.
Taking my lunch break
at the side of the road.
Watching all those ants
and chasing a few toads.
Oh to be on the road crew
it would make my day.
But don't ask me
I'm a little crazy that way.
