Work Out What God Works In

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Phil 2:12

Your will agrees with God but in your flesh there is a disposition that renders you powerless to do what you know you ought to do. When the Lord is presented to the conscience, the first thing the conscience does is to rouse the will and the will always agrees with God. The thing in you that makes you say ' I shant" is something less profound then your will; it is perversity or obstinance and they are never in agreement with God. God is the source of your will therefore you are able to work out His will. God not only expects me to do His will but He is in me to do it. Oswald Chambers.

One of the things I have always like about Oswald Chambers is he does not mince words. The phrase " The devil made me do it just does not fly with him. It is our independent, obstinate spirit that draws us to act in a sinful manner. Our will can be so strongly opposed to God. But when we abide in Him, when we allow Him to invade our entire sphere of life, when we are at the end of ourselves then Christ can take over to do what He so chooses in us to do. That is when our will melts and He rises up within us and we become a sweet, sweet song in His ear.

Invade in me Your Spirit Lord
just come upon me.
Invade in me Your Spirit Lord
come set me free.

I am at the end of myself
I am powerless.
Strip me of all self will
I now confess.
