It Seems Like An Obvious Choice

And take the helmet of salvation , and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God Eph.. 6:17

These days with higher gas prices we see people rushing out to buy that first motorcycle. Along with that it seems like an obvious choice to strap on a helmet for protection. Yet, I see more without a helmet than with one. It doesn't make sense to me. One tap from the car behind can send the motorcycle flying and the driver head bouncing across the highway. Is it worth the risk for that slight touch of freedom?

As Christians we have a similar protection. It is called our armour. We are called to put it on and strap it up. But do we? Like the motorcyclist that rebels we do also. We question whether we will ever need it or use it.

Yet, when you sit across the table from the rejections of life we crave for the word. The soothing hand of the scriptures teaches, corrects and calls us closer to Christ. With God's word taped to our lips and tied to our hearts life's troubles become minor irritations. It's purpose is to guide us, restrain us and give us a standard of conduct.

Our attitude toward the word is to stand in awe of, tremble at, speak faithfully, obey it and suffer for it. The word of God heals us, makes us free, illuminates our path, and exhorts us.

It seems like an obvious choice that we should hunger for it, and consume it every day.

Father,
in my rebellious state
I have not obeyed.
My foundation has receded.
No wonder I have strayed.

Putting on the armour
is my only choice.
To understand Your ways
and always hear Your voice.
