Neither be weary of His correction. Proverbs 3:11
The other day I was talking to my 17 year old about his language. I was making my point about swearing as I have never undestood what brings a person to such a vulgar act. The hardest part for me is certain words that make me cringe. I tried to explain that in my opinion swearing is for lack of a better vocabulary. It is a sign that a person lacks intelligence. But most of all it is a method of rebellion. As I was speaking, I literally stopped in mid-sentence as my lecture was bouncing back at me It was as if God was saying " But you Brad also rebel." So it was a brilliant discovery that my son and I had the same issues regarding surrender. Each of us have the same spirit of independence with just a twist and a different action verb as to how we rebel.
But sooner or later we all have to learn that we can't out run God. He, in His perfect timing, knows when to reel us in and pull us close. He gives us just enough to break our desire for independence and not our spirit.
Let's analyze this I said to my child
as I tried to make my point.
God simply will not bless you.
He simple won't anoint,
The harsh words, the rebellion
and the running to be free.
All these things I saw so clear.
So evident to me.
And as I heard each thought come out,
it came so blatantly clear,
The words were not just meant for my son
but words I needed to hear.
