When I met Justin he was the first neighborhood boy to come and introduce himself to my son. next thing I knew I couldn't get rid of him. Often time's he would post up at our house on Friday and not go home until Sunday. From sock fights to food fights he got in on all the ruckus at our house. He was the type of boy that would get up from what ever he was doing and help with the groceries or what ever else I needed. Not for brownie points but he just had a heart to serve. When I was laying sod he stopped by to see my son but instead stayed outside to help me. When I needed something moved he was the one on the other end of the couch. When his parents decided to move he moved with them. Moths later after a fight on the home front he hitch hiked nine miles to our hose.
Two years ago Justin's mom was having a party for her co-workers at home. As one of her friends was leaving she saw Justin peel away on his skate board. She asked if he needed a ride somewhere but Justin was not one to impose. As he approached a busy highway he attempted to cross. He thought he could make it. Justin was hit by a car and killed instantly.
Justin came to my mind yesterday and the tears flowed as usually. My son Patrick had just told me how he literally had to dive into a ditch because a car almost hit him.
Often times we see God at work and we can easily label that was God's intervention. But the days we pray and never see the close calls. The days we constantly beseech God and wonder if He really heard us are days like yesterday when I remind myself to keep praying unceasingly for the one's we love. God is constantly at work on the job 24?7. He does not sleep and I thank Him for it.
Sometimes we take for granted Lord
how much You're there for us.
We whine like little children
and we kick up and we fuss.
But we are called to continue
to walk beyond our sight.
To believe in all our hearts
that You will make things right.
The danger that I can not see
is captured in Your hand.
The enemy is shaken
and bows at Your command.
So thank you Lord
for who You are.
For eyes beyond my sight.
I stand now in Your shadow
protected by Your might.
