For lack of wood the fire goes out. And where there is no whisper, contention quiets down. Proverbs 26:20
With two teenage boys in my house it sometimes feels like a war zone. Raging emotions, veins flowing with hurt feelings, anger, disappointments and rage are often the picture I get to look at.
Proverbs tells us it is not our business to provoke, stir up our children. My ex wife actually told my son, " We don't want you anymore. Your own birth mother doesn't want you." Adopted children have it hard enough without words such as that. Imagine what that did to his little heart.
Proverbs calls us to not even whisper in times of contention. To be quiet in the heat of the battle is not the easiest thing to do but I do it. My boys consider me a wimp, weak and a few other choice words but that's O.K. They will have a brain someday.
Say not a word.
Be not disturbed.
For I am God
of all creation.
Say not a word.
Be not disturbed.
Just come to me
in adoration.
Hold out your hand.
You're just a man.
I am the God
of all the nations.
I know the end.
Do not contend.
Just come to me
in expectation.
