An Amazing About Face

Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. James 1:19,20

I was visiting with a friend the other day and she was sharing with me about a time in her life when God in His universal presence created an amazing about face in her marriage.

Due to unconfessed anger she had not spoken to her husband for two months. They were reaching the critical stages of their relationship. The obligations of seven years of marriage stacked with the responsibilities of twins pressed heavy on their marriage. They were on a fast tract to becoming another statistic in the obituary of divorce.

But God in His amazing omniscience entered into the scene. And He used a non-Christian to make things happen. Her sister had gone to a seminar and passed a book onto her. She refused the book and wanted to wallow in her own self pity. Her list of discontent was growing as she heard the words resonate in her mind. Her " I can't believe he did this" and " You know he shouldn't have said that" was enough to make any marriage weak. Satan was doing his part to fuel the fire and dry up the love in her heart.

But she said the book that God designed to save her marriage kept showing up everywhere. One day it was on the kitchen counter and the next day it had been moved to the coffee table. She felt like the book had legs and it was following her around.

She finally became so frustrated of trying to dodge the book that she broke down and shouted at it. Finally, she caved in, she surrendered. With God's piercing convictions of her mistakes laid at the alter her tears washed her clean.

After hearing her story I drove home touched by a Father that knows us so intimately. It is an overwhelming comfort to realize that He is intimately involved with our daily lives. He can arrange incredible circumstances for our benefit and His design.

I get excited to think that Satan can set our hearts in one direction and God can break through to convict us to do the opposite. Yet, just like my friend found out, it still comes down to our breaking, surrendering and yielding our will to the Father. She brought a willing, wanting and waiting heart and God did the rest.

When Satan Steals Our Hearts

When Satan steals our heart from Christ
and we're completely filled with anger.
We need to call upon the Lord
and recognize the danger.

Bowing down and looking up
is what we need to do.
Then God can work His miracle
and He'll come shining through.
