The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart. Psalm 51:17
These days the word broken brings negative connotations. If we relate it to romance it usually means our heart often gets wounded, broken. If we relate it to our physical body it often reflects broken bones. If we relate brokenness to our intellectual persona it usually means a man that has failed grotesquely. And if we relate it to the priesthood it means a man that is disqualified to serve is often called broken-footed.Lev. 21:19
To own something that is broken often means it has lost it's usefulness and it is time to throw it away. Yet in God's eyes God calls us to have a broken beat down spirit. How can a word that has all of these negative connotations look so good to Father?
God, in His ultimate wisdom, knows that we can't attract others to ourselves or anything we have accomplished. Our spirit must be broken, gentle and meek to draw others to Christ. More of Him and less of me is close. But even better is all of Him and none of me. That is the exact attitude that God is looking for when He looks at us.
It is in our humanness and prideful nature that we boast, we seek the glory and we become snobbish. There can be no possibility to reveal Christ to another when we operate that way. It is the very reason God abhors a prideful man.
It is only in our spirit of brokenness that another will see Christ, want what we have and understand the need for a Savior.
I am a vessel.
It is not of me.
I am a vessel
Oh friend can't you see?
He is the Savior.
It is all about Him.
He is the reason
We've been called out from sin.
I am forgiven
All because of Christ.
I am a witness
He has changed my life.
